Having this visa will later allow the holder to apply for a Subclass 80 visa to live permanently in Australia. This visa also allows the holder to remain in Australia until their application for Subclass 801 is being processed, so they can begin applying for Subclass 801 very soon after they are granted Subclass 820. This visa also allows the holder to travel to and from Australia as many times as they wish, work and study in Australia, receive free English language lessons and apply for access to Medicare benefits. A subclass 801 visa allows a holder of a Subclass 820 visa to eventually be granted permanent residence in Australia. There are no additional costs for applying for this visa, as those costs would have already been paid when lodging the application for the Subclass 820 visa. The processing times for a Subclass 801 visa vary between 7 and 23 months. On top of the benefits Subclass 820 holders are already allowed, holders of the 801 visa can also sponsor other family members overseas who wish to be granted residence in Australia and also apply for Australian citizenship.
