The Parent Visa Subclass 173 is a temporary visa designed for parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia, or New Zealand citizens. This visa allows parents to live in Australia temporarily for up to two years. It serves as the initial stage towards the Contributory Parent (Permanent) Visa Subclass 143, which provides permanent residency.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Family Relationship: You must be the parent of an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen.

  2. Balance of Family Test: At least half of your children must be permanently residing in Australia, or more of your children must live in Australia than in any other single country.

  3. Health and Character Requirements: You must meet health and character requirements as determined by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

  4. Assurance of Support: You may need to provide assurance of financial and housing support to avoid reliance on government assistance.
